Full STEAM Ahead by Rhonda Henderson

In his book, 212⁰ - The Extra Degree, Sam Parker writes: “At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. With boiling water comes steam….and with steam, you can power a train.” He goes on to present the concept that with just one degree of extra effort, a seemingly small thing, we can make tremendous differences. We have chosen “Full STEAM Ahead!” as our theme this year. It is our goal to exert an extra degree of effort in all we do each day to make meaningful differences in the lives of children and their learning.  Our students will be encouraged to pursue goals that allow them to make a difference in their young worlds. We will also look at S.T.E.A.M. from an addition perspective – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. We want to integrate all components of learning in ways that will enhance the strong instructional program we have at Tom Wilson Elementary. TWE teachers will continue to open doors of learning  for children to allow them to become independent learners, responsible citizens, effective communicators and innovative thinkers who are academically prepared to collaborate and problem solve with others to change the world. Our students are the future, and we take the responsibility of leading them very seriously!

Our school community needs you! We welcome family and community involvement. Stay connected through classroom Edmodo communications, our school website at www.katyisd.org, the PTA website at www.twepta.org and weekly e-News communications.  Be thinking about what you can do to become “one degree” more engaged at TWE. Being an engaged member of the school community is important to your individual child and the collective positive growth of our school.  Our staff and the TWE Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is ready to help you find a niche for engagement at school that allows you to feel like you are making a valuable contribution and difference for children. We want to help you find ways to make a difference in the lives of our students and to have a part in creating the future. Make the commitment, find that extra degree of effort, create some STEAM, and jump on the train to a PACKTASTIC year at TWE! It is a ride you will not want to miss!

Join us next week and read posts from some of our other administrative team members!
