TWE Fourth Grade Language Arts Team by Rhonda Henderson

Fourth grade language arts is a year of new challenges for our students. The state standards require students to be able to not only read and comprehend one piece of literature, but they also need to be able to compare two pieces of literature. Students are also assessed in narrative and expository writing on the STAAR in the spring semester. This year we have four experienced teachers preparing our students for success in reading and writing.

From the front: Ms. Schieffer, Mrs. Bibb, Mrs. McKinnies and Mrs. Hunzeker

Mrs. Cherrelle McKinnies is the fourth grade team leader. She is beginning her twelfth year of teaching. Mrs. Mckinnies has taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. In her free time she enjoys spending time reading, playing the piano, and trying out new restaurants in town. Mrs. McKinnies and her husband are both from Louisiana, so she says the are both definitely SAINTS Fans! I always enjoy watching Mrs. McKinnies interact with her students in class. She is able to captivate, motivate and inspire them to do their best work.
Mrs. Chrissy Bibb is beginning her second year at TWE and her fifth year teaching  4th grade Language Arts & Texas history. Before coming to TWE, she taught at two other KISD schools - Creech and Golbow Elementary. She and her husband live in Richmond with their two "sweet" dogs, Bailey and Brooklyn, and their cat Baxter. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, crafting, reading, and watching scary movies. Mrs. Bibb has been awarded a Katy ISD Foundation Grant for this year to add her classroom non-fiction library. We are proud of her.

Also returning to TWE this year is Mrs. Donna Hunzeker.  Before moving to Katy three years ago, she taught 4th and 5th grade for four years in Alpharetta, GA. Mrs. Hunzeker has  a son at Seven Lakes High School, a daughter at Seven Lakes Jr. High, and a 2nd grader at Stanley Elementary who keep her busy when she is  not spending time with her TWE family. When she has spare time, she loves to read, so she makes time to fit it in whenever and wherever she can - sitting at baseball practice or even while brushing her teeth in the morning. At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Hunzeker took time to do some special team building activities with her students to build the trust that is so important in a writing workshop environment.

Miss Schieffer is a member of the original Wolfpack. For her first two years at Wilson, Miss Schieffer taught second grade, and she is now so excited to be joining the fourth  grade team in teaching Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. This is her fifth year teaching in Katy ISD. She was a member of the Griffin Elementary staff before coming to Wilson. Miss Schieffer is not only teaching school, but is in school herself! She is currently working toward her Masters Degree in Reading, Language, and Literature at the University of Houston. Outside of her busy school life, Miss Schieffer volunteers with the Junior League of Houston, loves spending time outdoors, and cheers for the University of Alabama, her alma mater. Roll Tide is a favorite cheer of Miss Schieffer!

Our students are fortunate to have such strong teachers. Check out our blog tomorrow about their Math/Science teachers!
