TWE is excited to welcome four new teachers to our math team. This group of teachers brings a variety of experience to our fourth grade team. As all of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills math standards change this year, it is important that we have these excellent educators working to make the adjustments necessary to lead our students to success.
From Left: Ms. Kimberly Smith, Mrs. Erin Fair, Ms. Tracy Charanza, and Ms. Jennifer Smith
You may recognize Mrs. Fair (she was Miss Wright, a 2nd grade teacher at Tom Wilson last year). However, this year recently changed grade levels and her last name! Mrs. Fair said that changing grade levels and
planning a wedding made for a busy but great summer! This is her second year of
teaching and being a part of the Wilson Wolfpack. Mrs. Fair was selected as the KISD First Year Teacher of the Year last year and made us very proud! She is originally from
Katy and graduated from Cinco Ranch High School , but grew up in Trinidad, Malaysia, and Singapore. She is an advanced scuba
diver, and loves to run, cook, and spend time with her family.
Ms. Kimberly Smith joins the TWE staff from Sharyland ISD near McAllen, Texas. She feels that the
students in her classes are "truly delightful". They embrace the Wolfpack Way in
many things that they accomplish throughout each. Ms. Smith is originally
from Wichita, Kansas. She moved to Katy is July and is
genuinely enjoying being in Katy I.S.D. During her
eighteen year career, she has had the "joy of teaching" all subject areas in first
through fourth grades and math in fifth grade. Her son continues to live in
McAllen, but her daughter also chose to move to Katy and teaches in Katy I.S.D.
as well. Ms. Smith is looking forward to the many experiences and opportunities in Katy and
Katy I.S.D.
Ms. Jennifer Smith recently
returned to the Houston area after teaching for six years in the Bryan College
Station Area. She has taught a mixture of grades including 7th, 5th and 4th.
Fourth is her absolute favorite grade level to teach. Ms. Smith recently received a
Masters degree from Texas Tech University in August of 2013 with an emphasis in
4-8 Math and Science Education. Ms. Smith says that she " love, love, loves teaching math and science", and it is evident that she has many STEM ideas to share with our staff. Ms. Smith
will be getting married in June 2015. Outside of school she enjoys horseback riding,
cooking, and jogging.
Also joining the TWE 4th grade math/science team is Ms. Tracy Charanza. For the last six years, she taught in Lufkin, TX, her hometown. Ms. Charanza has taught both 3rd and 4th
grades. Just this summer, she moved to Katy and says she truly enjoys the area and the
people. She brought her "sweet" dog, Sophie, with her to Katy. Some of her
hobbies include painting, reading and spending quality time with friends and
family! Ms. Charanza is friendly and brings her smile with her to TWE each day.
Tomorrow check out this blog to read an article about literacy in Ms. Schieffer's fourth grade classroom.
