Learning through Play! by Lacey Abraham (Kindergarten teacher)

This year in Kindergarten we are taking trips to fire stations, bakeries, post offices and grocery stores! At least we are “pretending” to take those trips! Kindergarten students are loving our rotating home living areas for our developmental center time.  Each month the class’s kitchen/home living area is transformed into a new pretend play space.  The 8 different areas they will explore this year are fire station, farm, post office, construction, grocery, bakery, veterinarian office and restaurant.

A recent paper published on the NAEYC website stated that, “The authors point to the importance of playful learning and child-centered classrooms in supporting young children’s development. They also note the importance of joyfulness—not typically assessed as an outcome in studies of play but surely present.”
There are definitely plenty of joyful giggles and fun going on in Kindergarten at TWE lately!

For useful learning idea for your school projects you should take a look at http://www.kidsfront.com/math/1.ten_ones.html. I am a kindergarten educator and this website helps me in making of monthly lesson plans, activities, rhymes and online practice tests. I am sure this site will be helpful for your project too.
